NEW DELHI: Senior International Cricket Council (ICC) officials have travelled to Pakistan to secure the country's participation in this year's 50-overs World Cup in India which has been in doubt for political reasons.
The ICC chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice will be meeting Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi at board's Lahore headquarters to discuss the issues related to their national team's participation in the ODI World Cup in India, starting October 5. The ICC head honchos apart from Sethi will also meet PCB's COO Barrister Salman Naseer and other senior board officials. As of now, Sethi has maintained PCB's stand that if India don't come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, they will also demand that their games are played in Bangladesh.
The growth of franchise T20 leagues has left the cricket world divided as a more lucrative pay packet is luring a lot of top talent towards the shortest version. But the counter-argument is that of overkill.In the last one month, there has been the ILT20 in the UAE, SA T20 in South Africa, BPL in Bangladesh, and now the PSL has commenced in Pakistan."Well, I feel T20 leagues are adding new dimension to the game. The balance of the game is changing between traditional formats of the game and T20 leagues," Allardice told PTI during an interview.
Cricket is at its strongest position ever and the women’s game is going to be the driving force for future boost, feels International Cricket Council’s (ICC) chief executive Geoff Allardice. At the Economic Times-Global Business Summit here on Friday, Allardice spoke on a range of issues related to the sport. While speaking with cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle, Allardice was gung-ho about the women’s game and the possibilities it offers. “Right now, women’s cricket is the best possible opportunity to grow the game,” Allardice said. “The numbers that the Women’s Premier League has thrown up are simply mind-boggling. The transformation has been massive. The amount that the franchises have been bought at or the media and television rights or the players auction – all those numbers are huge and shows us that women’s cricket will be enormous in the future.”
RIYADH: The International Cricket Council has announced a partnership with Saudi energy company Aramco which is set to run until the end of 2023.
The 39-year-old fast bowler, who retired from international cricket after India's 16-run win over England in the third and final ODI in London, played in five ICC Women's World Cups including in 2005 and 2017, when India made the finals.
England were identified as the hosts for the next two WTC Finals during the ICC Annual General Meeting in Birmingham in July. "We are delighted to be hosting next year's ICC World Test Championship Final at The Oval which has such a rich legacy and an amazing atmosphere, which is ideal for such an important fixture on the calendar," ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement.
The final of the 2021-23 World Test Championship will be played at the Oval in London, the International Cricket Council said in a release on Wednesday. the ICC also confirmed that the iconic Lord's in London will host the final of the 2023-25 cycle. "The International Cricket Council (ICC) today confirmed that the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023 will be played at The Oval in London with the 2025 edition to take place at Lord's," the statement read.
