Defending champion Matteo Berrettini advanced to the final of Queen's Club ATP grass-court tournament on Saturday. The 26-year-old Italian registered a 6-4, 6-3 win over Van de Zandschulp in the semi-finals of the tournament. The match was also affected by rain but that did not stop a determined Berrettini from marching into the title clash. After the match, the Italian had another reason to smile about. While speaking to the broadcasters following his win, a fan from the crowd proposed to Berrettini and his reply left everyone in splits.
Friday's sizzling heat had disappeared at the historic London venue, but defending champion Berrettini maintained his hot streak on the grass to win 6-4, 6-3. The second seed will be a big favourite in Sunday's final against Serbia's Filip Krajinovic who took advantage of a poor display by twice former winner Marin Cilic. Krajinovic, who had never won a grasscourt match prior to this week, won 6-3, 6-3 against the seventh-seeded Croatian.
LONDON: Italy's Matteo Berrettini reached his fourth consecutive grasscourt final as he overpowered unseeded Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp at the Queen's Club Championship on Saturday (Jun 18).
Ryan Peniston's 'next stop' is to make the ATP top 100 after a quarter final exit at the LTA's cinch Championships at The Queen's Club at the hands of Filip Krajinovic. Peniston — who benefits from the LTA's NTC Access programme that supports players ranked 100-200 in singles and 31-100 in doubles — put in another impressive display against his third top 50 opponent in succession, but fell 4-6 6-3 6-3.
