In what is expected to be a closely-fought group, Afghanistan will hoping to be the giant-killers once again, and stake a claim for the semi-finals. Meanwhile, South Africa - who reached the semi-finals of the 2023 World Cup and the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 - will be aiming for at least the knockout stage once again. Star South Africa wicket-keeper batter Heinrich Klaasen is not playing, with the Proteas resting him as a precautionary measure for a left elbow injury.
Afghanistan left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for showing dissent at an umpire's decision during the second ODI of the three-match series against Zimbabwe in Harare. Farooqi was penalised for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The violation falls under Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses "showing dissent at an umpire's decision during an international match." The incident occurred in the fifth over of Zimbabwe's innings on Thursday when Farooqi showed dissent after an LBW appeal against Craig Ervine was turned down.

AFG vs SA 2nd ODI Live Updates: After an emphatic win in the first ODI, Afghanistan will be aiming to seal a historic series win over South Africa in what is the first-ever bilateral series between the two nations. Afghanistan will be hoping to replicate a bowling performance that saw the Proteas tottering at 36/7 at one stage during the first ODI. If they win, Afghanistan will take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. South Africa would hope that their relatively inexperienced side can forget the blues of the first ODI and recover. (Live Scorecard)
Afghanistan battled their way to a six-wicket win over South Africa in the opening one-day international in Sharjah on Wednesday after skittling the Proteas for just 106. South Africa avoided their lowest ever score in an ODI but some fine bowling from opening bowlers Fazalhaq Farooqi, who took 4-35, and AM Ghazanfar, 3-20, ensured that the Afghan batters would have a comfortable chase. In the event, they lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz to the third ball of the innings, caught at third man off Lungi Ngidi, and when Rahmat Shah was leg before to Bjorn Fortuin the Afghans were wobbling at 15-2.
Former India cricketer-turned-pundit Aakash Chopra does not shy away from a strong opinion or two on his YouTube channel. Now, picking the Team of the Tournament for the 2024 T20 World Cup, Chopra left out final heroes Virat Kohli and Axar Patel, as well as Rishabh Pant from his XI. However, five Indians still made it to Chopra's best team. He also left out the world's No. 1 T20I batter Travis Head, as well as fellow Australian star Pat Cummins, from his side.
The curtains on arguably the most exhilarating of all T20 World Cups were drawn with India's magnificent triumph over South Africa in a pulsating final which aptly summed up the entire tournament that twisted this way and that till the very end. While India strengthened their position as one of the true behemoths of the modern game with their embarrassment of riches in terms of talent, and an unerring determination to win, the others too, with their extremely high standard of cricket, contributed handsomely in making it an unforgettable tournament.
Ahead of the T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa, Cricket Australia (CA) picked their team of the tournament. India will take on South Africa in the summit clash on Saturday in Barbados, having thrashed England and Afghanistan, respectively in the semi-finals. Afghanistan's entry in the semi-final was the story of the tournament, especially with the Rashid Khan-led side beating Australia in the Super 8 stage to deny the former champions a place in the semi-finals. Coming back to CA's T20 World Cup XI, the apex board selected three Indian, two stars each from Australia and Afghanistan and one player each from West Indies, USA, Bangladesh and South Africa.
