BOSTON: The rain might be gone if Eliud Kipchoge returns for another try at the Boston Marathon, as he said Tuesday he intends to do. The field might be thinner. The wind might be at his back.
Eliud Kipchoge said he developed an upper left leg issue about 18 miles into Monday’s Boston Marathon, shortly before he was dropped from the lead pack en route to finishing sixth for his third defeat in 18 career 26.2-mile races.
BOSTON: Defending Boston Marathon champion Evans Chebet wasn’t focused on beating Eliud Kipchoge, the world record holder considered the greatest marathoner of all time.
Eliud Kipchoge finished sixth at the 2023 Boston Marathon in 2:09:23, his slowest ever marathon and his poorest showing since he finished eighth at the 2020 London Marathon. The 38-year-old was unable to keep up with the pace in the rain, with Evans Chebet defending his title in 2:05:54, making him the first man to win back-to-back titles since Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot won three in a row from 2006-2008. Ad Chebet has won his last three marathons, winning the New York City race in 2022.
Defending champion Evans Chebet won the Boston Marathon again on Monday, surging to the front at Heartbreak Hill to spoil the much-anticipated debut of world record holder Eliud Kipchoge and win in an unofficial two hours five minutes 54 seconds.
