Chelsea closed the gap to Women’s Super League leaders Manchester United to one point with a 3-1 home victory over Brighton on Wednesday.
Chelsea moved up to second in the Women’s Super League with a 3-1 victory over Brighton, while Arsenal are still in the title race after beating Liverpool 2-0. Guro Reiten, Jess Carter and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd scored for Chelsea as they moved one point behind leaders Manchester United, with a game in hand. Ad Arsenal are six points off top spot but also with a game in hand after goals from Caitlin Foord and Stina Blackstenius saw them get past Liverpool.
Despite a strong start, Brighton endured a frustrating end to last season. Finishing seventh, one place down on the previous campaign, and narrowly missing out on their record points tally will have been a disappointment for Hope Powell and her side.
