La Vuelta 2022 - Dutch delight in Utrecht as Jumbo-Visma win opening TTT and Robert Gesink takes red

On a day Utrecht became the first city in the world to have hosted the start of all three of cycling’s Grand Tours, the Dutch delight continued as veteran climber Robert Gesink led home the winning Jumbo-Visma team to take the first red jersey of the 77th edition of La Vuelta. Adam Blythe joked about being annoyed at how dominant Jumbo-Visma are threatening to be after the team signed Wilco Kelderman and Dylan van Baarle for 2023 and beyond. Kelderman finished fifth in the 2021 Tour de France and third in the 2020 Giro d'Italia, while Van Baarle secured stunning victories at Paris-Roubaix this year and at Dwars door Vlaanderen in the last campaign. Geraint Thomas part of three-pronged Ineos leadership at Tour de France, Tom Pidcock makes debut

The Ineos Grenadiers have confirmed their eight-man line-up for the 2022 Tour de France, and will be fronted by the star-studded GC trio of Geraint Thomas, Dani Martinez and Adam Yates. Thomas was the 2018 Tour winner and tasted success in this year’s Tour de Suisse. Meanwhile, Martinez emerged victorious in the Tour of the Basque Country and Yates has won multiple Tour stages.
