As things stand the club’s top scorer in all competitions, 14-goal Martin Boyle, is plying his trade more than 4,000 miles away in Saudi Arabia. Their second-top goalscorer – Kevin Nisbet, nine – is injured and sidelined until late 2022. The player in third – Kyle Magennis, with four – is also injured and won’t be back for the remainder of the season.
Coincidentally the 33-year-old’s first match of his previous temporary spell leading the Easter Road side was away to the Buddies, with a late Joe Shaughnessy goal cancelling out Josh Campbell’s opener as the teams shared the points back in December.
For the second time in just four months, the Hibs hierarchy are searching for a new manager after the sudden dismissal of Shaun Maloney on Monday morning. The 39-year-old lasted merely 19 games in the hot seat at Easter Road before club chairman Ron Gordon decided to part ways with the former Celtic player, saying he had hoped the appointment of a “young, highly regarded coach” would help take Hibs forward but conceded that simply “it didn't work out.”
