Pat Cummins led from the front as Australia ripped through India's top order in the World Test Championship final on Thursday.
LONDON :Australia racked up 469 in their first innings and reduced India to 37-2 at second day's tea to take charge of the World Test Championship (WTC) final at The Oval on Thursday.
LONDON : India's seam-heavy attacked prised out four wickets, including those of centurions Travis Head and Steve Smith, in the second day's morning session to keep themselves in the contest in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at The Oval on Thursday.
The World Test Championship final between India and Australia kicked off at the Oval, London on Wednesday. India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first against the Pat Cummins-led side. The Rahul Dravid-coached team went in with a four-pronged pace attack and preferred Ravindra Jadeja over seasoned off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin as the lone spinner. Mohammed Siraj dismissed Usman Khawaja to give India a really good start before David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne stitched 69 runs for the second wicket for Australia. Shardul Thakur got better of Warner and then Mohammed Shami produced a ripper to get rid of Labuschagne.
LONDON : India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at The Oval on Wednesday.
Australia captain Pat Cummins doesn't mind staying a bit undercooked going into the high-octane WTC final against India rather than playing two months of T20 cricket and landing up jaded for a gruelling English summer. Asked if the bulk of the Australian side (save Cameron Green, David Warner in IPL and Marnus Labuschagne in County cricket) would be a bit rusty with virtually no game time since the India series, the skipper on Sunday begged to differ. "Breaks are rare to come by," said the modern day great, who has 217 Test wickets from 49 games.
Star Australia batter Steve Smith on Monday expressed his concerns over the future of the five-day game ahead of the World Test Championship final against India beginning at The Oval on Wednesday. The rapid growth of franchise cricket around the world has put pressure on the international schedule. The smaller nations are not playing enough Test cricket, with India, Australia and England effectively driving the longest format. It was, though, ironical that Smith spoke about the uncertain future ahead of the biggest game in Test cricket -- the WTC final.
Cameron Green's game-changing potential is well documented among his Australian teammates, who feel that his presence in the dressing room has got a new meaning following his success in Indian sub-continent in the last four months. Green scored his first Test century during his maiden Test tour of India earlier this year. He hit an aggressive 114 of just 143 balls in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Ahmedabad in March this year.
