Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) will not fight for the general classification at La Vuelta, according to Eurosport expert Alberto Contador. Evenepoel is second favourite with the bookies despite having never finished a three-week race, with his Giro d’Italia debut last year unravelling spectacularly in the final week before he abandoned.

Caleb Ewan’s Tour de France could soon be over after ‘struggling’ to keep pace at the start of Stage 14. That’s the view of Alberto Contador, who was providing analysis for Eurosport on the back of a motorbike on Stage 13. Ad/> Lotto-Soudal rider Ewan was involved in a heavy crash a day earlier, admitting afterwards that he may have injured his knee.
There was a remarkable moment during Stage 13 of the Tour de France as Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) revealed his plans to Eurosport's Alberto Contador mid-race. Roglic has already proven himself to be a very valuable team-mate for general classification leader, Jonas Vingegaard, at this year's Tour with some inspired rides in support. Ad/> It is perhaps not much of a surprise that the Slovenian is targeting the Vuelta once more given he has won the last three editions of the famous Spanish race in succession.
Wout van Aert’s thrilling attack on Stage 6 of the Tour de France has been questioned by Alberto Contador. An early attack from the Jumbo-Visma rider on the lengthy 220km stage saw him part of a three-man breakaway with Quinn Simmons (Trek-Segafredo) and Jakob Fuglsang (Israel-Premier Tech) opening up a lead of 3’55” at one stage. Ad/> However, the gap came down quickly, yet the Belgian persisted with his efforts, first dropping Fuglsang, then Simmons and refusing to drop back to the pack.
Alberto Contador has outlined who he thinks could challenge Tadej Pogacar as he bids to win the Tour de France for a third year in a row. Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) has emerged as the dominant force at the Tour and is the favourite to secure another yellow jersey when the race starts in Denmark on July 1.
Two-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador believes Geraint Thomas and Adam Yates represent the best hopes for Great Britain at this year’s edition, but warned against ruling out Mark Cavendish in future editions. Thomas and Yates are part of a three-prong attack for Ineos Grenadiers alongside Dani Martinez and the team are going to go into the race without naming an outright leader, preferring to wait to see how the race unfolds.
