Athletics Federation of India (AFI) senior vice-president Anju Bobby George on Sunday dropped a bombshell alleging that few of the country's athletes are bringing back performance enhancing drugs from overseas, which are being distributed among some of their colleagues. Speaking at the two-day Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the AFI here, Anju, the country's lone World Championships medallist, said many of the banned drugs being consumed, have been brought by athletes caught for doping originated from abroad.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor, long jumper M Sreeshankar and sprinter Dutee Chand in the World Athletics Indoor Championships to be held in Belgrade, Serbia from March 18 to 20. Athletics Federation of India President Adille Sumariwalla said Toor and Sreeshankar got entries on the basis of their rankings, while Dutee was extended an invitation by World Athletics to run in the women's 60m event. "Sreeshankar is ranked 14th and Tajinderpal Singh Toor 18th on the Road to Belgrade 2022 lists," said Sumariwalla, who is also the jury member of the championships.

Star javelin thrower Chopra had clinched the country's first Olympic gold in athletics in Tokyo Games on August 7 last year and the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) had earlier said that national javelin day will be observed to mark the feat. The Federation Cup Senior National Athletics Championships will be held in Kozhikode from April 2-6, while the Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships and National Open Athletics Championships will be staged in Chennai (June 10-14) and Jamshedpur (October 15-19), respectively.
