Two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen stamped her authority in the women's 50kg by registering a dominant 5-0 win over Vietnam's Thi Tam Nguyen while Preeti Pawar (54kg) moved to the quarterfinals of the Asian Games on Sunday. In a rematch of March's world championship final, Zareen once again defeated two-time Asian Champion Nguyen by unanimous decision to move to the pre-quarters. Putting up a dominating show, talented Indian boxer Preeti notched up a an RSC win over Jordan's Silina Alhasanat. One of only four boxers to not get a first round bye in the 50kg event despite being the reigning world champion, Zareen controlled the proceedings from the word go.

The 19-year-old Preeti, who made the pre-quarterfinals of the World Championships earlier this year, dominated her Jordanian opponent, winning the bout by RSC (referee stops contest). Playing a strategic bout, Preeti started the contest on a defensive mode before unleashing her attacking game.

Chinese leader inaugurates Asian Games in presence of Saudi Olympic Committee president

HANGZHOU, China: China’s President Xi Jinping inaugurated the 19th Asian Games in the presence of Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, president of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee, on Saturday. Xi launched the opening ceremony of the tournament, which will continue until Oct. 8, in the presence of several world and Asian leaders, in addition to the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, and Acting President of the Asian Olympic Council, Raja Randhir Singh. Saudi attendees included Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee Vice President Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, and the Director of the Saudi Arabian delegation, Prince Abdullah bin Fahd bin Abdullah. Athlete Dunia Abu Talib and equestrian competitor Ahmed Al-Sharbatly carried the Saudi Arabian flag as they led the Kingdom’s delegation of athletes, sportsmen and sportswomen during the parade. Al-Sharbatly and Abu Talib expressed their pride in carrying the flag, saying “it is a dream that any Saudi citizen would wish for” and wishing their teammates success.

Indian E-sports Team Grabs Top Seed, Begins Campaign In Quarterfinals

After domination Central and South Asia seeding events, India have been seeded directly into the quarterfinals in League of Legends E-sports event, while they will begin their campaign from the round of 32 in two other sections in the Asian Games. With E-sports is set to make its full-fledged debut as an official medal sport at the Hangzhou Asian Games, India will compete in four of the seven events.

Indian Boxers Aim To Better Medal Count And Grab Olympic Berths

With the coveted Olympics berth up for grabs, the India boxers will step in the ring in Hangzhou with extra motivation, as they look to better the medal tally from the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. India have fielded a strong contingent led by two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen and Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain. In the men's section, the trio of world championship medallists -- the experienced Shiva Thapa, Deepak Bhoria and Nishant Dev -- will look to add an Asian Games medal to their kitty and secure their passage to Paris.
