LONDON (AP) — The English Premier League will disappear from Russian TV after suspending its deal with its state-owned broadcast partner after the invasion of Ukraine.
Premier League games will not be shown on Russian television after the governing body suspended its agreement with broadcast partner Rambler (Okko Sport).
The Premier League and EFL have suspended their broadcast deals with Russia following the country’s invasion of Ukraine. All 20 Premier League clubs unanimously agreed to suspend the agreement with Russian broadcast partner Rambler (Okko Sport) in a meeting on Tuesday. The Silverstone-based squad had been sponsored by the company since 2016. Its CEO is Dmitry Mazepin, father of ex-Haas Formula 1 driver Nikita.
The Premier League announced Tuesday it was suspending its broadcast deal with its Russian broadcast partner following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The decision was made at a shareholders' meeting in London. The Premier League will also donate £1 million ($1.3 million) to support the people affected by the war.
Meanwhile, a charity concert is taking place this Tuesday evening in Paris in support of the Ukrainian people. Two of France's big broadcasters are hosting the event called "Unite for Ukraine", with proceeds going towards humanitarian efforts. Among the performers are Carla Bruni, Indochine, Jane Birkin and Angélique Kidjo.
