HANGZHOU, China: India's shooters enjoyed another strong day at the Asian Games on Friday (Sep 29), with their men's 50m rifle team breaking the world record on the way to beating China for gold on day six of competition in Hangzhou.

India thrashed lowly Nepal 3-0 in the quarterfinals to secure a historic medal after 37 years in the men's team badminton event at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Friday. Taking the court first, Lakshya Sen defeated Prince Dahal 21-5 21-8 before Kidambi Srikanth beat Sunil Joshi 21-4 21-13 in the second match. In the third match, Mithun Manjunath edged past Bishnu Katuwal 21-2 21-17 to clinch the tie. The Indian men, who are assured of at least a bronze, will now face the winner of the match between Indonesia and Korea in semifinal for a spot in the gold medal clash.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Manika Batra progressed to the women's singles quarterfinals but veterans A Sharath Kamal and G Sathiyan crashed out in the pre-quarterfinals of the table tennis competition in the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Friday. In the men's singles, Sharath fought bravely against Chinese Taipei's Chih-Yuan Chuang but eventually the latter prevailed 11-7, 12-10, 9-11, 11-5, 10-12, 6-11, 11-8. Sharath had fought back from a two-game disadvantage to make it 3-3, but he could not hold his composure in the final game.

Indian golfer Aditi Ashok continued to stay in medal contention in the individual event as she was just one shot behind the leader at tied second in the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Friday. In the process, she also kept the Indian women's team in the race for another medal at the West Lake International course. Aditi (67-66) was one behind Thailand's Arpichaya Yubol (67-65) while the Indian women's team is lying third behind China and Thailand. India has never won an Asian Games medal in the women's section.
