The uncertainty over Champions Trophy 2025 is one that has kept the world cricket on tenterhooks. From the time, the BCCI informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that it will not be travelling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, the future of the tournament is in doldrums. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also maintained a hard stance and has ruled out possibility of a 'hybrid model' where some matches, including India's, are played at a neutral ground. It has also written to the ICC seeking a written response on the reason behind India not agreeing to come to Pakistan.

Pakistan on Thursday said that no back channel diplomacy was going on with India after the neighbouring country refused to send its cricket team for the Champions Trophy to be held in February-March next year. The spokesperson of Foreign Office, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, was asked questions at the weekly press briefing regarding the status of the cricket tournament scheduled to be held in Pakistan early next year. “There is no back channel with India to specifically discuss the Champions Trophy and bilateral Cricket between Pakistan and India,” she said.

South Africa fast-bowler Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the side's upcoming home series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan due to a groin injury, said Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday. CSA added that Ngidi, 28, recently underwent a medical assessment as part of his structured conditioning period, during which scans revealed bilateral proximal adductor tendinopathy. He will now begin a rehabilitation programme and is expected to return to play in January. It means that South Africa will be without Ngidi's services for the two Tests against Sri Lanka and the all-format series against Pakistan. Ngidi has picked 55 wickets for South Africa in Tests at an average of just 23.14 in 19 Test matches. His last appearance for the Proteas internationally came in the ODI series against Ireland in Abu Dhabi last month.
