However, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja are back in the mix after missing the series against West Indies due to various reasons. Both the senior players featured in the first T20I against Sri Lanka in Lucknow on Thursday which India won by 62 runs. Bumrah was named vice-captain for the series due to the absence of KL Rahul, who is injured. Ahead of the start of the first T20I, former India pacer Ashish Nehra was "surprised" to see Bumrah's inclusion in the team for the series.

It was a far cry from Kishan against the West Indies, who struggled to get going and made just 71 runs in three innings.

Shreyas Iyer admitted that the start to his unbeaten knock of 57 in the first T20I against Sri Lanka was slow but the conditions on the field weren't easy to negotiate. At one point, Iyer was 17 off 14 balls. But in the next 14 balls, he scored a whirlwind 40 runs to put a nice finishing touch to India's score of 199, setting the foundation for a 62-run victory later. "My start was slow but it wasn't easy. But once my eye got in and once I got a boundary, I thought I would keep going. Ishan (Kishan) wasn't able to time (in the middle overs) and he too was losing patience, so I told him to take his time and then he again started timing well. I just told him to take his time, look for twos and threes," said Iyer after the match.

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja imitated actor Allu Arjun's popular dance move from the recent hit movie ‘Pushpa' after taking a wicket against Sri Lanka in the opening T20I of a three-match series, in Lucknow on Thursday. Jadeja, who was making his international return after sitting out in recent months due to injury, dismissed Sri Lanka batter Dinesh Chandimal in the 10th over of the visitors' innings. Jadeja proceeded to celebrate the wicket with a dance move popularised by Allu Arjun from the ‘Srivalli' song in the movie Pushpa. Videos of Jadeja's move went viral on social media and former India cricketer Murali Kartik, who was in the commentary box at that time even termed him as "Ravindra Pushpa."

Kishan and Shreyas Iyer may not be certainties in India's first-choice T20 eleven yet, but the duo threw their hats in the ring with explosive knocks in the first T20 International Sri Lanka at Lucknow's Ekana Cricket Stadium on Thursday. Bolstered by the duo's stirring show, India gave the Lankans a total of 200 to chase, which as expected proved to be a tall order for the Islanders. The 23-year-old from Jharkhand blasted a career-best 89 to set up India's crushing 62-run win over Sri Lanka in the first T20I. "I know Ishan for a long time now. We play for the same franchise (Mumbai Indians) in IPL. I know the mindset and ability Ishan has. It was about getting the rhythm back and it was very very pleasing to watch him bat today," Rohit said during the post-match presentation.
