Ravindra Jadeja Becomes Number 1 All-Rounder In ICC Test Rankings

India's Ravindra Jadeja rose to the number 1 spot in ICC Test rankings for all-rounders after his match-winning performance against Sri Lanka in the first Test in Mohali. Jadeja displaced West Indies' Jason Holder to grab the top spot. It's not the first time that the Indian spinner has topped the all-rounder rankings, and his move to the summit comes as little surprise after a stunning show in the series opener against Sri Lanka. The India all-rounder was adjudged Player of the Match for scoring a sublime unbeaten 175 in the first innings to help India to a formidable 574/8 declared. He followed it up with a five-wicket haul in Sri Lanka's first innings, and the pick of the figures in the second innings too with 4/46. Jadeja 175* was also the highest score by an Indian batting at No.7 or lower in Test cricket, bettering Kapil Dev's long-standing record.

"Slip Of Tongue": Former Pakistan Skipper Disagrees With Rohit Sharma Terming Ravichandran Ashwin An "All-Time Great"

Team India's splendid innings victory against Sri Lanka in the opening Test in Mohali was a complete team effort. On one hand, Ravindra Jadeja displayed a world-class all-round effort that included a knock of 175 not out apart from taking nine wickets in the match. Other major contributions included Rishabh Pant's 96 with the bat. However, one name that may not have been talked about a lot was that of Ravichandran Ashwin. Along with Jadeja, Ashwin was one of the main architects of the win. Not only did he score a half-century, he also claimed six wickets in the match to help his side finish the game early.

Next generation of bowlers can forget about taking 1000 international wickets: Ashwin

Ashwin says reduction in Tests, emergence of T20 leagues will make it difficult to emulate Shane Warne's featNEW DELHI: As the calendar gets busier, breaking records seems to get harder for contemporary cricketers. As a case in point, while being felicitated for his 100th Test last week, Virat Kohli had mentioned that he was proud to have lasted so long in this day and age. "In present-day cricket, with three formats and IPL, the only takeaway from my career for the next generation is that I could strive through and play the purest format this long," Kohli had said on the morning of the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Mohali.

ICC won't rate Rawalpindi pitch poor: PCB source

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) does not think that the ICC will rate it 'poor' or 'not up to the mark' for Test cricket. The Test between hosts Pakistan and Australia ended in a high-scoring draw but visiting skipper Pat Cummins and top batter Steve Smith were not impressed with the quality of the strip. "Turning up to a pitch that's probably not a traditional pitch you would get here in Rawalpindi, and it's probably clear they've made an effort to try and nullify the pace bowling," Cummins said.

Watch: When Shane Warne Dismissed Brendon McCullum Exactly How He Told Commentators He Would

The cricketing fraternity has been stunned by the death of former Australia cricketer Shane Warne, who died last week after suffering a heart attack in Thailand. Regarded as one of the greatest players to have ever played the game, Warne troubled top-quality batters with his crafty leg-spin bowling. He was an extremely smart cricketer, who used to read the game brilliantly. In 2011, Warne told the viewers how exactly he's going to dismiss New Zealand's Brendon McCullum during a Big Bash League (BBL) game. Warne was in action for the Melbourne Stars against the Brisbane Heat, he was wearing a microphone to communicate with the commentators.
