Joe Root has stepped down as England Test captain.
Joe Root has described his decision to step down as England’s Test captain as his “most challenging” but conceded it recently hit home how much of a toll the role had taken on him.
Joe Root on Friday announced his decision to step down as England's Test captain. This comes following England's Test series losses against Australia and the West Indies. In the Ashes, England faced a 0-4 drubbing and then the side lost the three-Test series against West Indies 0-1. Root is the most successful England Test skipper after having won 27 Tests, that puts him ahead of Michael Vaughan, Sir Alastair Cook, and Sir Andrew Strauss.
India last won the ODI Cricket World Cup in 2011 and since then MS Dhoni's match-winning six from the final against Sri Lanka has gone down into cricket folklore. The former India skipper is also considered by many fans and experts as a pivotal figure in the win due to his captaincy and also for batting earlier than his usual position in the crunch final clash. But former India spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was part of the World Cup-winning team, feels the win was possible only due to teamwork and not due to individual performances.
MELBOURNE : Australia fielding coach Jeff Vaughan has left the post to return to the head coaching role at Tasmania on a five-year deal, Cricket Australia said.
MUMBAI : Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene was left to rue the team's lack of killer instinct after the Indian Premier League's most successful franchise slumped to their fifth consecutive defeat in Pune on Wednesday.
MUMBAI (Reuters) - Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene was left to rue the team's lack of killer instinct after the Indian Premier League's most successful franchise slumped to their fifth consecutive defeat in Pune on Wednesday.
Former South Africa skipper Graeme Smith feels the "mental strain" of leading the Indian team across formats may be taking a toll on Rohit Sharma in the ongoing IPL. Rohit's Mumbai Indians, who have won the IPL a record five times, are yet to open their account in the 15th edition of the lucrative league, having lost all their four matches so far. This after the swashbuckling opener has led India to white-ball series victories against the West Indies and Sri Lanka followed by a Test series at home against the islanders.
