South Africa are bracing for a formidable bowling attack from an Indian side eager to prove themselves when their Twenty20 series begins under New Delhi's scorching summer sun, skipper Temba Bavuma said Wednesday.
Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Wednesday evening informed that the contact of the accused national coach has been terminated with immediate effect after its internal complaints committee (ICC) prime facie found him guilty of misconduct on the cycling team’s training-cum-competition trip to Slovenia. In a statement, the SAI stated that the allegations of “inappropriate behaviour” against the track sprint team’s head coach have been found to be “true” – as levelled by the complainant cyclist – by the committee. “The SAI had constituted an inquiry committee to hear the case of a national level cyclist’s complaint against a coach of inappropriate behaviour during a foreign exposure trip in Slovenia which was organised by the Cycling Federation of India (CFI).
The Sports Authority of India on Wednesday terminated the contract of national cycling coach RK Sharma, with immediate effect, after a committee found allegations of inappropriate behaviour, against him, to be true. According to the complaint filed by a woman cyclist, Sharma forced himself into her room and harassed the cyclist on May 29, during the team's tour of Slovenia.
Rishabh Pant said Wednesday he will make the most of his unexpected chance to captain India after KL Rahul was ruled out to injury on the eve of the Twenty20 series against South Africa. Rahul was appointed captain of the team after all-format skipper Rohit Sharma and superstar Virat Kohli took a break when the Indian Premier League wrapped up, but he has now been sidelined by a groin injury. Pant, a wicketkeeper-batsman who leads Delhi Capitals in the IPL, will take charge in his place for the five-match series, which begins Thursday in New Delhi.
Harmanpreet Kaur was on Wednesday named India women's team captain for the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka on a day when her ODI predecessor Mithali Raj announced her international retirement. Harmanpreet, who remains T20I skipper, and Smriti Mandhana were in the running to replace Mithali in the 50-over format. Eventually, the selectors have gone for the 33-year-old Harmanpreet over the 25-year-old Mandhana. India will play three T20Is and as many ODIs against Sri Lanka in Dambulla and Kandy, starting June 23. It will be India's first assignment since the early exit from the ODI World Cup in March.
Mithali Raj brought curtains down on her remarkable 23-year long journey in international cricket on Wednesday as she announced her retirement from all forms of international cricket. The legendary batter conquered several peaks during her long stint. Here are the full list of records of Mithali Raj
The first superstar of women's cricket, arguably the most 'correct' batter in the game, a trailblazer: these sobriquets aptly describe Mithali Raj. Long before she arrived on to the international scene as a 16-year-old and scored a hundred on debut, Mithali was destined to be a great of the game. Her cover drives and back foot punches that the cricketing world relished for years, came naturally to her and to add to that flair, she developed a water-tight technique that few could breach.
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will be leading India in the upcoming five-match T20I series after KL Rahul was ruled out on the eve of the match due to a groin injury. The press conference on Wednesday was delayed by almost an hour, and out came Rishabh to speak to reporters, and he said that it is a huge honour to lead the country.
