Anil Chaudhary Takes Up Commentary After Working As Umpire For 17 IPL Seasons

Anil Chaudhary did the umpire's duty during the past 17 editions of the IPL but he has now slipped into the role of a commentator this season after turning 60 last week. It effectively signalled his retirement from officiating the game. Chaudhary's farewell game happened to be the Ranji Trophy final between Kerala and Vidarbha last month at Nagpur and his last international appearance came in September 2023. Overall, he officiated in 12 Tests, 49 ODIs and 64 T20s. With retirement on the horizon, Chaudhary started planning for the future and got into regional commentary which has grown exponentially in the last two years.

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, former Indian cricketer Lakshmipathy Balaji said that the league and "its franchise owners, leadership groups and ecosystem" had a key role in India's two successive white-ball title wins, the T20 World Cup 2024 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The 2025 season of the league will kickstart with a clash between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Balaji, a one-time IPL winner who took 76 wickets in 73 matches at an average of 26.68 and represented franchises like Chennai Super Kings (CSK), KKR (one title) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in his career, spoke on impact of the cash-rich league.

Kabaddi's Global Body Declares World Cup In UK 'Unauthorised'

The International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) on Wednesday declared that the World Cup being held in London is not an "authorised" event and asked the sport's Indian apex body to act against the team that had gone to take part in the tournament. Kabaddi World Cup 2025 is being held in the West Midlands from March 17 to 23. The tournament is being hosted by the England Kabaddi Association and the British Kabaddi League (BKL) under the aegis of World Kabaddi Federation, a parallel international governing body of the sport.

Himachal Pradesh High Court Directs BFI To Allow Anurag Thakur's Nomination In Its Polls

Former sports minister Anurag Thakur's bid to contest the Boxing Federation of India's presidential election was brought back on track after the Himachal Pradesh High Court stayed his disqualification from the Electoral College and directed the BFI to extend the date of nominations to enable his candidature. Thakur, who is also a Lok Sabha MP from Hamirpur, was declared ineligible after a March 7 order by BFI President Ajay Singh which stated that only elected members were qualified to be a part of the electoral process.

India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy revealed that a light-hearted dressing room banter with the talismanic Virat Kohli resulted in him getting the shoes gifted by the former skipper, which he wore when he hit his first Test century against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). “Back in the locker room, he (Kohli) once asked Sarfaraz (Khan), ‘Sarfu, tera size kya hai?' (Sarfaraz, what's your shoe size?), and he said, ‘Nine.' Then he turned to me, and I thought, ‘Oh my god, I have to guess this correctly,' because even if they weren't my size, I really wanted his shoes. I said, ‘10,' and he gave them to me. Mohammed Siraj Backs Lifting Of Saliva Ban From IPL: 'It Will Help Reverse Swing'

India pacer Mohammed Siraj on Thursday wholeheartedly welcomed the BCCI's decision to lift the saliva ban ahead of IPL 2025, saying it will help the bowlers find "reverse swing" even in benign conditions. The BCCI removed the ban on use of saliva on the cricket ball after a majority of the team captains agreed to its proposal, making it the first major competition to do away with the restriction that was a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. "It's very good for bowlers. It's excellent news for us bowlers because when the ball is not doing anything, applying saliva on the ball will increase the chances of finding some reverse swing," Siraj, who has joined Gujarat Titans this season, told PTI.

Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma are officially divorced after months of legal proceedings. Chahal and Dhanashree had filed a divorce plea on February 5 this year, which was accepted by a Mumbai family court on March 20. Chahal and Dhanashree's relationship has been under public scrutiny since 2022, and the pair appeared separately at the Bandra family court for the final settlement of their divorce case on Thursday. Speaking to news agency ANI, Chahal's advocate Nitin Gupta said the family court has granted decree on the joint petition filed by Chahal and Verma for divorce by mutual consent.
