BENGALURU : The Indian Premier League's impact player rule has divided opinion since being introduced in 2023 but Delhi Capitals batter Faf du Plessis said its value was plain to see after his side came back from the dead to beat Lucknow Super Giants on Monday.
Left-arm wrist spinner Noor Ahmad was left amazed by "out of the world" stumping from Chennai Super Kings icon MS Dhoni during their high-stakes encounter against Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Chepauk went bonkers after witnessing Dhoni's brilliance behind the stumps. The closest thing to the speed of light, Dhoni was at his level best behind the stumps during CSK's four-wicket win against MI. Dhoni's art with the gloves was up for show during the 11th over of the first inning. MI's stand-in captain, Suryakumar Yadav, decided to venture out of the crease and execute a booming inside-out drive.
Ashutosh Sharma's late charge of 66 from just 31 balls saw Delhi Capitals (DC) snatch a vicotry from the jaws of defeat in their IPL 2025 opener against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday. Ashutosh was struggling to time the ball initially after scoring a run-a-ball 20, went berserk in the last three overs in the chase, scoring his next 46 in just 11 balls. After his knock, Ashutosh dedicated his 'Player of the Match' award to mentor and former India captain Shikhar Dhawan.
The BCCI central contracts for men are yet to be released, fuelling speculations over some rejigging in the A+ category following the retirement of stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja from the T20 format. While the women's central contract list with 16 names across three categories was released on Monday, the men's list which had 30 names last time, is expected to come out in the next few days. A+ category has a retainership fee of Rs 7 crore, followed by A where a player gets Rs 5 crore while cricketers in Grade B and C are paid Rs 3 crore and 1 crore respectively.
Delhi Capitals found a new hero in Ashutosh Sharma, who singlehandedly left Lucknow Super Giants gobsmacked and sealed a narrow one-wicket win for his side in the ongoing Indian Premier League on Monday. The crowd at Visakhapatnam was on a rollercoaster ride they hardly anticipated. They sat on the edge of their seats, witnessed the nerve-wracking events, and slowly fathomed what 26-year-old Ashutosh had achieved at the end as DC completed its biggest run-chase in the cash-rich league. From being down and out at 65/5, Ashutosh played the decisive role in a game where the pendulum swung in favour of both sides. He put on a show for cricket lovers across the globe, stayed till the end, struck the winning six and returned with a match-winning unbeaten 66(31).
Top seed Alexander Zverev recovered from a slow start to power into the fourth round of the Miami Open with a 7-5, 6-4 win against Australia's Jordan Thompson at Hard Rock Stadium on Monday. The German was 4-1 down in the first set but then went on a roll, winning eight of the next nine games to progress. Zverev lost in the opening round at Indian Wells, but with Carlos Alcaraz already out in Miami he will fancy his chances of adding to his list of seven Masters 1000 titles. "Jordan made it difficult for me for sure. He's a quality player," said Zverev. "When you're in rhythm, he knows how to break it a little bit. So he did extremely well today. I'm happy with my level from 1-4 onwards," he added.
