CWG 2022: India's Vikas Thakur Wins Silver In Men's 96kg Weightlifting

Indian heavyweight lifter Vikas Thakur added yet another Commonwealth Games medal to his kitty, winning a silver in the men's 96kg here on Tuesday. The seasoned Thakur lifted a total of 346kg (155kg+191kg) to finish second and claim his third CWG medal across three editions. It was Thakur's second silver, having finished second in the 2014 Glasgow edition as well. In Gold Coast, he had returned with a bronze. Samoa's Don Opeloge 381kg (171kg+210kg) bettered his 2018 silver by clinching gold with a record breaking performance.

Commonwealth Games 2022: Updated Medals Tally, India At Sixth

The Indian contingent are displaying a good show at the ongoing Commonwealth Games and they have won 9 medals so far, including three gold. The first gold for India came through Mirabai Chanu on Saturday, and the rest of the two were also won by weightlifters -- Jeremy Lalrinnunga and Achinta Sheuli. Apart from three gold, the contingent has won three silver and three bronze as well. Judoka Shushila Devi also won a silver medal in the women's 48kg category on Monday.

India had a good Day 4 of the ongoing Commonwealth Games as India managed to make it to the finals of the women's four lawn bowls event, assuring themselves of at least a silver medal. Pugilist Amit Panghal progressed to the quarterfinals while Sushila Devi Likhmabam added another medal to India's tally, winning silver in judo women's 48kg event. Harjinder Kaur added a bronze as well to the weightlifters' tally. The contingent would now hope for a similar kind of day.
