LEEDS, England :Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell again proved thorns in England's side as they helped New Zealand recover from a freakish stroke of misfortune to end the first day of the third and final test on 225 for five on Thursday.
England enjoyed an excellent morning session on Day 1 of the ongoing third Test against New Zealand at Headingley in Leeds on Thursday. Trailing the series 2-0, New Zealand opted to bat after winning the toss, hoping for a good start. However, veteran pacer Stuart Broad landed the first blow in the very first over of the match, dismissing New Zealand opener and vice-captain Tom Latham on the last delivery. The veteran pacer then added another wicket to his tally, after Jack Leach had got the better of the other Kiwi opener, Will Young.
Stuart Broad’s double strike and a freak dismissal on the stroke of tea put England in a strong position on day one of the Headingley Test, with New Zealand struggling on 123 for five.

Though India were off to a poor start in the warm-up game against Leicestershire on Thursday, one positive sign was the batting of former captain Virat Kohli. He batted with confidence and looked poised for a big score. Apart from his confident stroke-play, there was another point in Kohli's innings that went viral on social media. On Day 1, the 34-year-old Kohli was seen trying to balance the bat upright without any support.
