New Zealand captain Kane Williamson's further participation in the ongoing IPL has been put under doubt due to a right knee injury that he suffered during his team's winning effort against Chennai Super Kings here. The 32-year-old got injured following a nasty fall while fielding on the boundary during the CSK innings. He had limped off the field in the 13th over on Friday. The extent of his injury is not yet known, but going by what was seen on Friday night, it did not seem a minor injury.
Opener Shubman Gill smashed 63 as holders Gujarat Titans beat Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in the Indian Premier League opener in front of more than 100,000 fans in Ahmedabad on Friday.
Harry Kane has been heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer, and Manchester United are keen on a move for the striker.
Shubman Gill eclipsed Ruturaj Gaikwad's high-quality knock with a dazzling half-century as Gujarat Titans began their title defence with a convincing five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in the IPL opener in Ahmedabad on Friday. Gaikwad was all class in his 92 off 50 balls before Titans pulled things back in the middle overs to limit Chennai Super Kings to 178 for seven after opting to bowl first in front of a near capacity crowd at the world's largest cricket stadium. In the form of his life over the past three months, Gill played some jaw-dropping strokes in his 63 off 36 balls to set up a fine win for the home team. Titans got home in 19.2 overs.
Mohammed Shami became the first wicket-taker of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as the Gujarat Titans pacer shattered the stumps of Chennai Super Kings opener Devon Conway with a marvelous delivery on Friday. After GT skipper Hardik Pandya opted to bowl against Dhoni's CSK, Shami struck on the second ball of the third over as he broke through the defence of Conway. It was also Shami's 100th IPL wicket. The full delivery, angled in and hit the stumps of Conway, who went for a drive. The ball hit the middle stumps as Shami and his GT teammates erupted in celebration.
After defying all odds to lift the Indian Premier League (IPL) title in their maiden season last year, Gujarat Titans look to kick off their title defense in style when they go up against the Chennai Super Kings in the opening game of IPL 2023. Captain Hardik Pandya led the team by example with his all-round performances last season. His form will be key once again, while in-form Shubman Gill's presence at the top of the order will be pivotal too. David Miller, who played a crucial role with the bat in the middle-order last season, will miss the opener due to international commitments. GT roped in Kane Williamson during the IPL auction and it will be interesting to see how many games he will have under his belt.
Holders Gujarat Titans will take on four-time champions Chennai Super Kings in the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Friday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Gujarat pulled off a fairytale title win in their debut season with Hardik Pandya leading the side to victory in front of a record crowd of almost 105,000 fans last year. CSK, on the other hand, had a campaign to forget last time out, finishing ninth in the table with just four wins from a possible 14. GT have managed to retain their core group of players from last season, whilst bolstering their squad with the additions of Kane Williamson, Josh Little and Odean Smith. Meanwhile, England Test captain Ben Stokes' arrival at CSK might boost the MS Dhoni-led side's title hopes this season.
