La Fórmula 1 confirma que no habrá relevo para el GP de Rusia en el calendario de 2022, así que la temporada ya no tendrá 23 carreras, sino 22, como sucedió el año pasado. La prueba de Sochi se canceló en febrero con el inicio de la guerra en Ucrania y en los últimos meses el campeonato había negociado con varios candidatos. Se habló de Qatar y también se valoró un doblete en Singapur que ocupase el vacío de la pista de Adler, pero finalmente se ha optado por no sustituir la carrera que se pierde porque los costes logísticos para sostener un triplete transoceánico (a Rusia le seguían Singapur y Japón en el calendario original) así lo han aconsejado. No han faltado candidatos, pero se ha optado por descongestionar las fechas.
