DS TECHEETAH’s Jean-Eric Vergne said that Mitch Evans’ dominance at the 2022 Rome E-Prix should serve as a warning to the rest of the grid as the Jaguar TCS Racing driver completed a historic double-victory across the weekend in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Evans, who showed exceptional pace in the Saturday race to take the chequered flag from starting in P9, produced an arguably more impressive performance to claim victory on the Sunday race – his third E-Prix win in Rome.
LONDON: It was double glory for Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans as he stormed to victory in the second Formula E Rome E-Prix of the weekend, matching his win in Saturday’s race.
Evans was due to take his attack mode - a solitary allotted activation of eight minutes in the second Rome race - on the 18th lap, but the stranded Mahindra of Alexander Sims prompted the emergence of the race's second safety car, which stopped Evans from being able to arm it.
With a single attack mode activation totalling eight minutes available, the strategic aspect of the second race was immediately different to the first, and Evans held off on taking his 250kW power mode until late on in the race.
Although Dennis had blazed his way to the final with an impressive 1m37.997s to go half a second clear of his semi-final opponent - race 1 winner Mitch Evans - he was unable to repeat those heroics in the final.
Last Thursday, Shabab Al-Ahli of the UAE drew 1-1 in the opening round of games in the Asian Football Confederation Champions League against Ahal of Turkmenistan, a team making a debut appearance in the tournament.
Vergne logged his headline time immediately after the chequered flag fluttered over the finish line, jumping above Mortara to take the early bragging rights ahead of the second day of running at the Circuito Cittadino dell'EUR.
