Hope the art of serve and volley remains in tennis, says Vijay Amritraj

The 68-year-old Amritraj who had five career wins over one of the greats of grass court, America's Jimmy Connors, added that the 'touch' is gone, the serve and volley is gone and the craft that we saw from a lot of previous Indian players is kind of dying down now, which is sad. However he believes that playing more tournaments on grass courts might force a change in mindset for baseliners. "It's a dying art.

Learnt how to bat calmly under pressure from MS Dhoni, hoping to impress selectors in IPL 2022, says Rahul Tripathi

Tripathi hasn't made his international debut yet, but he is one of the more talented batsmen around, who the selectors might be keeping an eye on for a potential T20I call-up in the future, like his state-mate from Maharashtra, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who made his T20I debut last year after good performances at the domestic and IPL levels. Like most Indian cricketers of this generation, Tripathi too is a big MS Dhoni fan. He shared the dressing room with Dhoni in his maiden IPL season with the Rising Pune Supergiant team (now defunct) in 2017. After RPS, the 31-year-old went on to play for the Rajasthan Royals (2018 and 2019) and then the Kolkata Knight Riders (2020 and 2021). Tripathi will now be plying his trade for the Sunrisers Hyderabad who bought the attacking batsman for a whopping Rs 8.50 crore in the last IPL player auction. Last year (in 2021), Tripathi, while playing for KKR, found himself in a pressure-cooker situation and the Maharashtra cricketer held his nerve to seal the deal for his team. In Qualifier 2, in Sharjah, Kolkata Knight Riders were 123/2 in 16 overs, chasing Delhi Capitals 135/5.

Ashwin says reduction in Tests, emergence of T20 leagues will make it difficult to emulate Shane Warne's featNEW DELHI: As the calendar gets busier, breaking records seems to get harder for contemporary cricketers. As a case in point, while being felicitated for his 100th Test last week, Virat Kohli had mentioned that he was proud to have lasted so long in this day and age. "In present-day cricket, with three formats and IPL, the only takeaway from my career for the next generation is that I could strive through and play the purest format this long," Kohli had said on the morning of the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Mohali.

Will Graeme Smith be able to solve SA players' IPL impasse before ending stint on March 31? Nortje doubtful

CSA's Director of Cricket Graeme Smith to find a middle-of-the-road solution with regards to availability of top South African players in the IPL earlier than April 15. Delhi Capitals could be doubly hurt as Anrich Nortje hasn't bowled a lot since November and it's not clear if CSA's medical team will give him clearance to play in the Indian Premier League. Some of the top South African cricketers are in danger of missing out on three weeks of IPL due to their home series against Bangladesh which includes three ODI and two Tests starting March 18 and ending on April 12. Save for Quinton de Kock, who has retired from Test cricket and will play for Lucknow Supergiants, there is no certainty on whether Proteas pace attack of Kagiso Rabada (Punjab Kings), Nortje (DC), Marco Jansen (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Lungi Ngidi (DC) will be available before the Test series against Bangladesh ends.

PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth & Lakshya Sen lead India's campaign at German Open

Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen will be the top Indian contenders at the German Open Super 300 badminton tournament starting here on Tuesday. While Sindhu eased to a title win at Syed Modi International and Lakshya grabbed his maiden Super 500 trophy at Indian Open in January, Srikanth saw the momentum of the World Championships fizzle out a bit after withdrew from the Delhi due to COVID-19 infection. The Lucknow title was Sindhu's first since the World Championship gold in 2019 and it must have eased the pressure a bit but the Indian is well aware that she will have to hit top gear during the European leg in a hectic year which also has big-ticket events such as the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
