NEW DELHI : Australians Pat Cummins, David Warner and Steve Smith are among 48 players who will enter this month's Indian Premier League (IPL) players' auction with a base price of 20 million Indian rupees ($268,000), the Indian board said on Tuesday.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction will take place inBengaluru on February 12 and 13, announced the BCCI on Tuesday. 590 cricketers are set to go under the hammer during the two-day mega auction. This will be the 15th season of the IPL and some of the biggest stars of world cricket will be coming together to light up the prestigious tournament.
The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) on Tuesday confirmed that the upcoming three-match ODI series between India and West Indies will be played behind closed doors. Team India is set to play three ODIs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad from February 6 followed by the T20I series at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata from February 16.
Former India paceman Ajit Agarkar voiced his concern over former Team India captain Virat Kohli's batting form as the team prepares for a three-match ODI and T20I series at home under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. Speaking exclusively on Star Sports show "Game Plan", Agarkar gave an honest assessment of Kohli's batting woes and termed his batting form as a "concern" not only for the captain, but also for the combination of the team. "Virat Kohli's form is a concern, but we all know what a player he is. So, hopefully, he discovers his form sooner rather than later," he said.
West Indies named a 16-member squad to be led by Kieron Pollard for the upcoming three-match T20I series in India starting February 16, the same team that faced England in the home contest. The three T20Is will be played in Kolkata on February 16, 18 and 20, following the three-match ODI Series which will be played in Ahmedabad on February 6, 9 and 11. West Indies have already named the ODI squad under Pollard.
The West Bengal government on Monday allowed 75 per cent spectator attendance for the three-match T20I series against the West Indies to be played at Eden Gardens, beginning February 16. As per a state government notification issued on Monday "all indoor and outdoor sports activities will be allowed with 75 per cent of the capacity of the venue" which means a crowd attendance of around 50,000 can be expected.
Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya said the board is confident in staging the upcoming three T20Is against West Indies in February. Team India are set to play three ODIs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad from February 6 followed by the T20I series at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata from February 16. "It may be recalled that CAB had organised a T20 match against New Zealand successfully in November 2021 with players and support staff in bio-secure environment and with seventy per cent cricket lovers in attendance," Avishek Dalmiya said in a statement.
The league stage of the Ranji Trophy is set to be held from February 16 to March 5, as per a revised schedule prepared by the BCCI. The BCCI was forced to postpone the premier domestic tournament due to rising COVID cases in the country. It was originally scheduled to start from January 13. The likely venues for the 38-team event are Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Trivandrum, Cuttack, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad and Rajkot.
