India vs Sri Lanka: Sourav Ganguly confirms pink-ball Test in Bengaluru

Sourav Ganguly, the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), confirmed on Thursday that the two-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka will have a pink-ball Test to be played in Bengaluru. After the white-ball series against the West Indies concludes in Kolkata on February 20, India will host Sri Lanka for three T20Is and two Tests scheduled for late February and early March. COVID outbreak in India camp: Dhawan, Gaikwad, Shreyas and multiple non-coaching staff test positive

COVID-19 outbreak hit the Indian cricket team on Wednesday as three main players -- senior opener Shikhar Dhawan, reserve opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer -- tested positive for the virus during their mandatory isolation period before the start of West Indies series. Four other persons, including net bowler Navdeep Saini, have also tested positive for COVID-19. Saini is also on standby list.

IPL player auction will be held over two days - February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. The highest base price category is Rs 2 Crore. A total of 17 Indian cricketers with a base price of Rs 2 crore will go under the hammer this time. Rs 2 crore is the highest reserve price. As many as 48 players in all (17 Indian and 31 foreigners) have chosen to place themselves in this bracket in the final auction list which stands at 590 players. A total of 1214 players had earlier registered for the auction. The Indian cricket board released a list of 590 cricketers (370 Indian players and 220 overseas players) who will be up for grabs during the two-day mega auction. Amongst 590 players, 228 are capped players, 355 are uncapped players and 7 belong to Associate Nations. Three of them are players picked to play the series while four are from the support staff and one is a standby player. The Indian team assembled in Ahmedabad on Monday to play the three-match ODI series against West Indies which is due to start on February 6. According to sources, the infected players are Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer. Other than the players, a driver, a security personnel, a physical trainer and a masseuse have been infected.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is likely to be held in India "until and unless COVID-19 hits the roof." With less than a fortnight to go for the IPL 2022 mega auction, Ganguly's comments are certain to delight the Indian cricket fans, who have been deprived of a full IPL season for last two years - IPL 2020 was held in UAE entirely while last year's edition started in India but had to be stopped mid-way due to a COVID-19 outbreak and was held a few months later in the UAE. The former India captain also added that the board is planning to host the league phase of the 15th edition of IPL in Mumbai and Pune. Ganguly, however, did not clarify whether crowd will be allowed in the venues.
