World champion Max Verstappen has penned a long-term contract extension with Red Bull, tying him to the Austrian outfit until 2028. A report in Spain is claiming that a source within the Alpine team has said that their car for the 2022 Formula 1 season needs improving, with Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon set to be behind the wheel once more this year.
The deal, reportedly worth up to £40million ($54 million) per season, will keep the Dutch driver with the team until the end of 2028. The 24-year-old's current contract was due to expire at the end of next season but he has been rewarded for beating seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton to the title.
