Coco Gauff qualified for the WTA Finals for the first time on Wednesday, along with French player Caroline Garcia, who will be making her second appearance in the event. Gauff, 18, and Garcia join world number one Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur and Jessica Pegula in the singles draw for the finals in Fort Worth, Texas from October 31 to November 7. Gauff will also play in the doubles with partner Pegula, making them the first Americans to take part in the WTA Finals in both singles and doubles since Serena and Venus Williams in 2009.

India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, under MS Dhoni's captaincy. The 8th edition of the ICC T20 World Cup is currently being played in Australia and the Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, will kick off their campaign on October 23 against arch-rivals Pakistan in the Super 12 stage. In the 7 completed editions of the tournament so far there have been as many as 6 different champions, with only the West Indies managing to clinch two titles - in 2012 and 2016. India have gone into the tournament without the services of two star players - pacer Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. In Bumrah's absence, the experienced Mohammed Shami will spearhead the Indian bowling attack. Apart from Shami, young Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Pandya are the weapons India will have in their pace armoury.

FIFA urges broadcasters to 'pay what women's game deserves' for 2023 World Cup rights

FIFA has rejected a number of bids for the 2023 Women's World Cup broadcast rights for being too low, the body's Chief Business Officer Romy Gai said as he called on broadcasters to seize the "opportunity" provided by the women's game. Gai, who was appointed to the role earlier this year, said the bids did not reflect the popularity of women's football and highlighted the 2019 World Cup's record viewership figures.
