India's skipper Rohit Sharma didn't hold back to laud youngster Yasasvi Jaiswal whose impressive knock of 171 laid the foundation for the victory against West Indies in the two-match Test series on Friday at Windsor Park.

Jaiswal made the most of the opportunity that came to him in his debut Test. He took on the bowlers, didn't panic and managed to hold on to his nerves throughout his 501 minutes innings.

The Indian skipper shared some special words on the Test debutant Yasahsvi Jaiswal and said in the post-match presentation, "He has the talent, he has shown us in the past that he is ready.

Came and batted sensibly. The temperament was also tested, at no stage he was panicking." Rohit, who also holds the experience of scoring a ton on his Test debut against the Windies a decade ago, said that all he told Jaiswal during their partnership was that he belonged at the Test level. "In the middle, it was just about having a chat, letting him know, 'You belong here.' That is the most important thing, because when you're playing your first Test match, you kind of keep asking yourself whether you belong here or not, but my job from the other side was to just keep telling him, 'You've done all the hard yards, it's just about enjoying your time in the middle.

India skipper Rohit Sharma has been receiving a lot of praise for his performance in the recently concluded two-match Test series against West Indies. The 36-year-old batter not only brought up his hundred in the first Test but also went on to smash a half-century in the second match. An Indian team in transition will feel robbed of an opportunity as torrential rain came in its way of potentially winning the second Test against West Indies and completing a 2-0 series whitewash in Port of Spain on Monday. Eyeing a clean sweep after their victory inside three days in Dominica, India called the shots here too and set the hosts an imposing target of 365. But the match ended in a draw after the fifth and final day's play was washed out. Having taken two wickets to leave the beleaguered West Indies trailing by 289 runs by the end of the fourth day's play, the Indians would have certainly fancied their chances of emerging victorious and grabbing a full 24 points in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.
Rohit Sharma became the first batter in the history of Test cricket to register 30 consecutive double-digit figures. The record previously belonged to Sri Lanka great Mahela Jayawardene who had 29 double-digit scores to his name but Rohit surpassed him during Day 4 of the second Test match against West Indies in Port of Spain. Often regarded as a specialist in white-ball cricket, Rohit has truly shown over the last couple of years that he is as good a batter in Test cricket, as he is in limited-overs formats.
As the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli age, the perennial question of 'who will be their long-term replacements?' continues to engulf the Indian cricketing fraternity. While there isn't any clarity over the length of Rohit and Kohli's career, former India batter Wasim Jaffer feels the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill can take Indian cricket forward after the talismanic duo of Rohit and Kohli is no longer with the team.
Young India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal said that he considers himself fortunate to play alongside a legend like Virat Kohli. Jaiswal's comments came after stumps on Day 1 of the ongoing second Test against West Indies in Trinidad. Jaiswal scored a century on his debut Test last week in Dominica and followed it up with a solid 57 in the first innings of the ongoing second Test. In a video shared by the International Cricket Council, Jaiswal said he gets to learn a lot by watching Kohli bat, and also revealed that he enjoys having conversation with the battieng maestro.
