Women's T20 Asia Cup: India To Meet Pakistan On October 7

India will meet arch-rivals Pakistan on October 7 in the Women's T20 Asia Cup, scheduled to begin in Bangladesh's Sylhet from next month, Asian Cricket Council president Jay Shah announced on Tuesday.

Seven teams will take part in the 15-day tournament, starting on October 1. The tournament will be held in a round robin format with the top four teams qualifying for the semifinals.

The teams playing in the tournament are India, Pakistan, hosts Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, UAE, Thailand and Malaysia. Afghanistan doesn't have a women's team since the Taliban took over.

India start the campaign on the opening day against Sri Lanka. They next play Malaysia (October 3) and UAE (October 4) on successive days before taking on Pakistan.

Thailand for a paltry 37 before knocking off the runs in just six overs with nine wickets in hand to top the seven-team group league in the Women's Asia Cup, here on Monday. The emphatic win was India's fifth victory in six games, with the only defeat coming in a low-scoring match against arch-rivals Pakistan. India have 10 points from six games and are expected to be joined by Pakistan, Sri Lanka and one among Thailand and Bangladesh in the semifinals. Bangladesh have a match left and they need to just win it to enjoy a better net run-rate (+0.423 after 5 games) over Thailand (-0.949 in 6 games).

Thailand in the Women's Asia Cup here on Monday. India have fielded a different playing XI in all their matches in the tournament so far in order to give the fringe players time in the middle ahead of the T20 World Cup next year. The batting order has also been continuously rejigged with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur dropping down to number seven against Pakistan.

Indian batters bungled badly in a straightforward chase as Pakistan recorded their first win over the arch-rivals in six years with a 13-run victory in the Women's Asia Cup, in Sylhet on Friday. India, the most formidable team in Asia by some distance, batted poorly to be all out for 124 in 19.4 overs after Pakistan posted a modest 137 for six. Pakistan scripted a remarkable turnaround less than 24 hours after their shock loss over Thailand. The Thailand women's team had a memorable day as the side managed to defeat Pakistan in the ongoing Women's Asia Cup at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Natthakan Chantham starred with the bat in hand as she scored 61 runs off just 51 balls to help Thailand beat Pakistan by four wickets. In the end, it was Nattaya Boochatham and Rosenan Kanoh who took Thailand over the line.
