Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday praised India's bowling attack against South Africa in the second Test match in Cape Town and said that if the visitors perform well with the bat then they will easily win the long-format game.

Ganguly met the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Vishnu Deo Sai in Raipur after getting an invitation from him. While speaking to the press, Ganguly said that he was sad after the 'Men in Blue' lost the ODI World Cup 2023 final match against Australia after displaying a magnificent performance throughout the tournament.

He also pointed out India's stellar performance in the second Test match against the Proteas. "I am sad that we could not win the World Cup after playing such a good cricket, but we will win in the future.

The team has got a lot of quality. Look how they dismissed South Africa at 55 in Cape Town. If they perform well with the bat then we will win the Test match easily.

Making his international debut in 1992, Ganguly played a total of 311 ODIs and 113 Tests, scoring 11,363 and 7,212 runs, respectively. Known for his aggressive batting style, the Kolkata-born cricketer led India in 2003 ODI World Cup, where his side lost against Australia in the final. Apart from this, he also formed a great opening pair with legendary Sachin Tendulkar and provided a strong base to India's batting line-up for many years.
Former captain Sourav Ganguly on Sunday backed stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to feature in India's squad for the T20I World Cup in June. The duo, who have not featured in any T20I for about 14 months, have made themselves available for the sport's shortest format, and it remains to be seen if they are picked for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, beginning January 11 in Mohali. "Of course Rohit should captain the team in the T20I World Cup. Virat Kohli also should be there. Virat Kohli is an outstanding player, nothing will happen (to return after 14 months)," Ganguly added.
The Indian cricket team came under immense criticism after their loss in the first Test match against South Africa but the Rohit Sharma-led side made a brilliant recovery after winning the second match within two days in Cape Town. Earlier, the T20I series ended 1-1 after the first match was washed out while India were victorious in the ODI series. Former skipper Sourav Ganguly believes that a loss does not change the fact that India are a great team and he was happy with their performance in South Africa.
The India vs South Africa 2nd Test ended inside two days. In all, only five days of cricket action was possible to see in the two-match Test series. While the first Test ended in three days, the second Test's duration was beyond explanation. Thrice the teams were all out in a span of five sessions. While the pitch at the Newlands Stadium is under question, there are those who have raised questions at the batters' technique too.
Mohammed Siraj made early inroads as India struck four times inside the first 10 overs to leave South Africa reeling on Day 1 of the ongoing second Test in Cape Town. As the Proteas won the toss and opted to bat, Siraj proved to be the wrecker in chief for India, who had lost the first Test by an innings and 32 runs in Centurion last week. Siraj dismissed Aiden Markram (2), Dean Elgar (4) and Tony de Zorzi (2), respectively in his first spell.
