Three maiden Call-Ups To New Zealand Squad For ODI Series Against Bangladesh

sports.ndtv.com

New Zealand have named their 13-member ODI squad to face Bangladesh in three ODIs with maiden call-ups to the fifty-overs squad for three players.

26-year-old all-rounder Josh Clarkson, leg-spinner Adi Ashok and seamer Will O'Rourke are the three potential ODI debutants named in the squad that sees a major reshuffle after the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, in which Kiwis earned a semifinal finish after a loss to India.

Ashok, who made his T20I debut in UAE in August, will be part of the squad for the final two games with Ish Sodhi playing the first game.

Tom Latham will lead the side that misses several senior players from the World Cup squad. Kane Williamson, Tim Southee, Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner, Glenn Phillips and Devon Conway are not part of the squad, as per ICC.

The first match, taking place at McLean Park in Napier, offers different challenges as the Bangla Tigers look to continue the momentum. The Kiwis will be eager to hit top gear in the T20I assignment against an unpredictable Bangladesh side, especially as only 6 months remain for the T20 World Cup 2024 to begin. (LIVE Scorecard)
Bangladesh's pace attack shredded New Zealand's batting on a green Napier pitch to record a historic nine-wicket win in the third and final one-day international on Saturday. Having been well beaten in the first two matches to cede the series, Bangladesh produced a remarkable form reversal at McLean Park to dismiss the hosts for just 98 in 34.1 overs. The run chase was a procession, with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scoring an unbeaten half-century as they coasted to 99-1 in 15.1 overs.
Black Caps captain Kane Williamson and star seamer Kyle Jamieson have been withdrawn for the three-match Twenty20 series against Bangladesh, New Zealand Cricket said Friday. Despite being named in the original squad, Williamson will undergo further rehabilitation after knee surgery last April, while Jamieson is nursing a hamstring injury, the Black Caps said. They will be replaced by opener Rachin Ravindra and seamer Jacob Duffy for the three Twenty20 games, starting on December 27. Mitchell Santner replaces Williamson as the Black Caps captain.
Henry Nicholls fell agonisingly short of a century on Wednesday as New Zealand eased to a seven-wicket win and sealed victory in their ODI series against Bangladesh. A superb 169 off 151 balls from opener Soumya Sarkar was not enough to end Bangladesh's miserable ODI streak in New Zealand, where they have now lost all of their 18 previous 50-over matches against the Black Caps. "The way the openers set the innings up was outstanding," said New Zealand captain Tom Latham.
Kane Williamson will captain New Zealand as they get their preparations for the Twenty20 World Cup underway with a three-match series against Bangladesh in the final few days of the year.
New Zealand have added Ben Sears to their one-day international squad as cover for fellow pace bowler Kyle Jamieson ahead of the three-match series against Bangladesh, the country's cricket board said on Friday.
