Manchester United chiefs have indicated not much money will be spent in the January transfer window due to Financial Fair Play concerns.

The Reds splashed more than £180m in the summer in addition to last year’s £225m spend. The timing of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival means the Ineos boss will not have any impact over winter market plans and he might not officially be in place until after deadline day as the Premier League completes checks on his investment.

Erik ten Hag was frustrated by the lack of funds last January and could be forced to utilise the loan market again. However, there may be some cut-price deals to be sought with a back-up for Rasmus Hojlund perhaps being one area that could be strengthened. Morocco star En-Neysri has scored nine times in 25 matches this season, a year after scoring twice at the World Cup. Sevilla are having to pay compensation to two managers who they sacked this term and so could be open to offers for 26-year-old En-Neysri to help them stay financially afloat.
