"This Pitch Talk Is Just Getting...": India Skipper Rohit Sharma's Blunt Take After Indore Test Loss

India skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his displeasure over the talks around the pitches for the ongoing India vs Australia Test series.

The pitch in Nagpur, that hosted the first match, became a talk of the town even before the start of the series. The second and third Tests took place in Delhi and Indore, respectively, and the surfaces of both the venues also came under the radar of critics for the amount of turn they offered to the spinners.

It is worth noting that all the three matches ended in less than three days. Rohit feels that the focus should not be on the pitch, but on the performance of the players. "I am not worried about the pitch.

Honestly, this pitch talk is just getting too much. Every time we play in India, there is only focus on the pitch. Why are people not asking me about Nathan Lyon?

India player Suryakumar Yadav is definitely not having the best of times. The batting star scored three consecutive golden ducks in India's just-concluded ODI series against Australia. While he is the top batter in the T20Is, Suryakumar is yet to establish himself in the 50-over format. He has scored 433 runs in 23 ODI matches at an average of 24.05, which is way less than the potential and class he possesses. With an unimpressive start to the ODI career, his most recent failure against Australia has put him under the scanner again.
Poor application and their failure to build substantial partnerships was the reason for India's downfall while chasing a target of 270, which wasn't much according to skipper Rohit Sharma. India lost a bilateral ODI series at home after four years and it was Australia under Aaron Finch that had beaten Virat Kohli's side back in 2019. "I don't think it was too many runs (269). The wicket was a little challenging towards the second half. I don't think we batted well. Partnerships are crucial, and we failed to do that today," Sharma said at the end of the match.
India captain Rohit Sharma lost his cool at spinner Kuldeep Yadav after taking a DRS call during the ongoing third ODI agaisnt Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The incident happed after the final ball of the 39th over when Kuldeep convinced Rohit to take a DRS call after an lbw appeal against Ashton Agar was rejected by the umpire. Although Rohit took the DRS with a smile on his face, there was a sudden shift in his emotions as he lashed out at Kuldeep for some reason. It was not clear whether he was indulging in a banter or not.
India captain Rohit Sharma on Sunday said right-handed batter Suryakumar Yadav, who has struggled to find his mojo in one-day cricket after a dazzling run in T20 format, knows that he has to perform well, and the team management will give him a longer run. Suryakumar was dismissed in identical manner in the first two ODIs against Australia -- trapped leg-before off in-swinging deliveries from Mitchell Starc on first balls he faced -- with his barren run in the format now stretching further.
Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his disappointment and said that the wicket was not bad enough for his side to lose 10 wickets for 117 in the second ODI match against Australia in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. Virat Kohli and Axar Patel were the only two India batters to cross the 25-run mark as Mitchell Starc ran riot for Australia with a brilliant five-wicket haul. Rohit rued the way Indian batters gifted their wickets on a not so dangerous surface and pointed out how the dismissal of Shubman Gill and himself put the hosts in a tough position in the early overs.
India captain Rohit Sharma on Monday said the Indian players, whose IPL sides won't make it to the playoffs of the T20 League, may assemble in London for a two-week conditioning camp ahead of the World Test Championship final against Australia. The WTC final is played in June, right after the IPL and this year, the final is on May 29 while the WTC will begin on June 7 at the Oval. With IPL going back to its original home and away model for the first time since the post-COVID-19 outbreak, there will be a lot of travelling involved and among all the current India Test regulars, only Cheteshwar Pujara is not a part of the IPL.
