The upcoming edition of the Duleep Trophy, which marks the beginning of red-ball cricket in the domestic season, will feature top Indian stars from the international circuit and emerging talents competing at the highest level.

The tournament is set to begin on September 5, 2024, in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh and M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Star India batters Rishabh Pant, Kishan, Shubman Gill and many more players are set to feature in the Duleep Trophy 2024-25 season.

However, the big names like Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma will be the missing the domestic tournament. Recently, former India batter Suresh Raina stated that the star players should have played the Duleep Trophy as it would have helped them prepare for the upcoming crucial Test series. "Yes, they should've played, you see we haven't played red-ball cricket ever since the IPL ended.

Since, we're heading towards a crucial Test series, one must play 4 day cricket and get used to how the wicket will behave on Day 4.

The umpire raised his finger but Kohli did not look convinced as he walked towards Shubman Gill for a discussion. After a short chat, Kohli decided not to review the decision and walked away much to the disappointment of the supporters.
Whatever happens on the field, stays on the field. Don't think there is a better sentence to describe the relationship between India head coach Gautam Gambhir and star batter Virat Kohli. The two share a history when it comes to on-field altercations, having played plenty of cricket together and against each other. The two Delhi boys, in a video shared by the BCCI, sat down to discuss their careers, highs and lows, and the on-field battles in the past.
Virat Kohli failed to impress on his home Test return as he was dismissed for just 6 on Day 1 of the first Test match between India and Bangladesh in Chennai on Thursday. This was Virat's first Test match on Indian soil since March 2023 and he received a rousing ovation when he came out to bat at the M Chidambaram Stadium. However, he ended up playing a loose shot outside the off-stump to hand Hasan Mahmud his third wicket of the match. The delivery went flying off Virat's outside edge and wicket-keeper Litton Das made no mistake in completing the catch behind the stumps. Rohit was visibly upset by the developments as India lost three wickets early in the first session.
Captain Rohit Sharma on Tuesday warned his India team there is "no dress rehearsal" in cricket as they face a Bangladesh side fresh from a historic Test series win over Pakistan. India lead the World Test Championship (WTC) standings ahead of Australia, where Rohit's team will tour for a five-match series later in the year. But first they host Bangladesh in a two-Test series, starting with the opener in the northern Indian city of Chennai from Thursday. India are clear favourites but the visitors recently celebrated a landmark 2-0 series sweep in Pakistan. "There is no dress rehearsal kind of stuff happening here," Rohit told reporters, cautioning against minds turning too quickly to Australia.
Ahead of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan is excited to share the dressing room with India legend Virat Kohli and said 'his passion and spirit are unmatched'. Sarfaraz, who made his Test debut against England earlier this year, is eager to link up with his former Royal Challengers Bengaluru teammate Kohli. In the series against England, Sarfaraz could not meet Kohli as the latter withdrew from the five-Test series citing personal reasons.
