St Johnstone WFC striker Morgan Steedman turned the spotlight away from herself despite netting a hat-trick in Sunday’s 5-3 win against Gartcairn.
And instead the clinical forward was keen to emphasise the importance of being a team player and was just delighted to have chipped in for the rest of the squad.
Steedman, no stranger to a goal in recent seasons, always knows that those lining up beside her will create chances throughout the course of a game. “Scoring in any game is brilliant and obviously a hat-trick is amazing to get,” she beamed. “But for me it’s always about the team winning and I’m just super happy to have contributed to the three points in the way that I should be. “I think I will have chances in every game and the team work hard to get the ball up the field and provide me and the other attacking players with these opportunities. “And it is down to us to ensure that we make use of these the best we can. “I think my mindset is just always expect chances and be as clinical as I can.” Saints had endured a choppy start to the Scottish Women’s Premier League 2 campaign with defeats to Stirling University and Queen’s Park.
But Steedman hopes the Gartcairn result provides the necessary spark to carve out a positive run of form in the coming weeks.
