South Africa's Justin Harding made the most of his late addition to the tournament with a flawless opening 65, but fellow LIV rebel Ian Poulter slumped to an eight-over-par 78.
The big names were put in the shade by Cameron Tringale who hit a course-record 61 to take a three-shot lead at the Scottish Open. Those who secured an early tee time at the Renaissance Club had the best of the conditions, with the wind picking up as the day wore on.
