Arthur Melo is a Liverpool player in all but name, it would seem. At least on loan, that is, because the Juventus midfielder has been given the ‘Here we go’ seal of approval from the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano as he became embroiled in one of Deadline Day’s least expected narratives.
Romano explained on Thursday morning that Arthur – who boasts 22 caps for Brazil – was flying out to the UK to sign contracts and complete a medical that would see him move to Anfield on a one-year loan deal with no buy option.
Jurgen Klopp had publicly expressed his desire for midfield reinforcements and it looks as though his wish has been granted with an acquisition who’s more than used to playing with world-class teammates.
And we say that because the Merseyside-bound baller is part of an exclusive club of players who have shared a dressing room with both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo over the course of their careers.
