Ronaldo vs Messi: When Liverpool-bound Arthur revealed the key difference
Arthur Melo is a Liverpool player in all but name, it would seem.
At least on loan, that is, because the Juventus midfielder has been given the ‘Here we go’ seal of approval from the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano as he became embroiled in one of Deadline Day’s least expected narratives.
Romano explained on Thursday morning that Arthur – who boasts 22 caps for Brazil – was flying out to the UK to sign contracts and complete a medical that would see him move to Anfield on a one-year loan deal with no buy option.
Jurgen Klopp had publicly expressed his desire for midfield reinforcements and it looks as though his wish has been granted with an acquisition who’s more than used to playing with world-class teammates.
And we say that because the Merseyside-bound baller is part of an exclusive club of players who have shared a dressing room with both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo over the course of their careers.
Arthur spent two seasons playing alongside Messi at Barcelona between 2018 and 2020, before rubbing shoulders with Ronaldo at Juventus across the 2020/21 campaign.
As such, the 26-year-old shares a level of insight on what it’s like to play alongside arguably the two greatest male footballers in history that only the likes of Gerard Pique, Carlos Tevez, Henrik Larsson and Nelson Semedo also have.
And sadly, some of the players who have gotten to know both Messi and Ronaldo personally tend to come out with, well, rather boring answers when they’re asked to name who was better.
To be fair, it’s pretty understandable because you wouldn’t want to annoy either superstar, but it does mean that fans still don’t quite get the satisfactory answer that they’re looking for.
