Raphael Varane new role confirmed as statement released after Manchester United exit

Former Manchester United centre-back Raphael Varane has been appointed as Como's new board member after retiring from professional football.

The Frenchman announced his retirement from professional football last month after suffering a knee injury during his debut for Como.

Varane left United in the summer following the expiration of his contract and joined the Italian side. Since suffering the injury, Varane has been involved with the club behind the scenes.

Confirming his new role, a club statement read: "Como 1907 is pleased to announce the appointment of Raphaël Varane as a board member.
