Former India pace bowler Chetan Sharma has resigned from the post of chairman of the senior selection committee following a sting operation by a news channel, where he allegedly revealed confidential information. "Chetan has tendered his resignation to BCCI secretary Jay Shah and his resignation has been accepted.

His position had become untenable after the sting operation. He resigned voluntarily and wasn't asked to resign," a senior BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity on Friday.

Chetan was in Kolkata along with other selection committee members for the Ranji Trophy final between Bengal and Saurashtra.

They were there to select the Irani Cup team. But once his resignation was accepted, Chetan left for Delhi and avoided the waiting media at the airport here.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy hasn't been a batter's paradise so far. The first three Tests have seen bowlers, particularly spinners, dominating the proceedings, with all three matches ending inside three days. Though a number of batters have struggled to put runs on the board, wicket-keeper batter KS Bharat's place in the team has been questioned, especially since Ishan Kishan is available for selection. However, India head coach Rahul Dravid jumped to Bharat's defence when asked about his form, all but ruling out a change in wicket-keeper for the 4th Test against Australia.
Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid feels that a "realistic" approach can help the batters perform well on the challenging tracks that are on offer during the ongoing India vs Australia Test series. Hosts India have only one century among top-order batters, scored by skipper Rohit Sharma, while Cheteshwar Pujara is the only other player with a 50-plus score. While admitting that the wicket has been challenging, Dravid said even a half-century or a nearby contribution could be really helpful on such tracks.
India's head coach Rahul Dravid doesn't regret one bit playing the ongoing Test series against Australia on spinner-friendly tracks as World Test Championship points are at premium and most countries are preparing result-oriented pitches. While India lead Australia 2-1 in the four-Test series, the "poor" rating of Indore track by ICC match referee Chris Broad has once again raised questions about playing on rank turners, where all the games finished inside three days.
The Indian Premier League is just round the corner and it looks like the promotional campaigns for the tournament are currently in full swing. In a couple of videos leaked on social media, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya were captured shooting for the upcoming television commercials. While the source of the videos was unclear, it was presumed to be an insider present during the shooting. Both commercials seemed to be focussing on the fans of the franchises and how they connect with the players and the team ahead of the new season.
Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has advised India skipper Rohit Sharma and the team management to back underfire player KL Rahul. It is worth noting that Rahul is going through a lean patch with the bat and that saw him being dropped for the third Test against Australia. The player who was part of the first two matches could score only 38 runs across three innings. Shubman Gill, who is having a good run with the bat currenly, has replaced him in the playing XI. However, Clarke is of the opinion that the team management should have shown more faith in the player.
The Day 1 of the ongoing third Test between India and Australia saw the wickets falling down like nine pins. The hosts opted to bat but their decision proved to be expensive as they got bundled out for 109 with spinners Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon taking five and three wickets respectively. However, the visitors also lost four wickets at the end of Day 1 after Ravindra Jadeja took a four-wicket haul. Australia lost an early wicket of Travis Head in the second over and were on the verge of losing Marnus Labuschagne as well in the fourth over. However, a turn of events gave Labuschagne a new life.
