Manchester City made it three wins from three in the Premier League but they did not have it all their own way at Sheffield United.
City had the lion's share of the possession throughout and should have been ahead going into the break. John Egan was penalised for handball in the Blades' area which gave Erling Haaland the opportunity to open the scoring.
However, the Norwegian's effort struck the inside of the post as the Bramall Lane faithful jeered. It was threatening to not be Haaland's day but he eventually opened the scoring just after the hour mark as Jack Grealish's cross was hung up for the forward to head in.
The Blues received a scare with five minutes of normal time remaining as substitute Jayden Bogle fired in from close range for the hosts.
