Pep Guardiola is hopeful Rodri's injury after a poor tackle against Fluminense won't be too serious after seeing his face during the celebrations at winning the Club World Cup final.

But the Spaniard will be assessed in the next few days ahead of the trip to Everton on December 27 after suffering a right knee injury in a tackle from Aleksander during the final in Jeddah.

The 27-year-old was fit enough to return to the podium to collect the Golden Ball trophy for the tournament's best player and he also took a full part in City's celebrations on the pitch at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium. "I didn’t speak, it looks from his face it’s good, it was a scare, the action was really tough, we’ll see in the next days how he reacts," he said.

City's victory looked a routine one and they had the lead after just 40 seconds, but Fluminense responded with a sustained spell of pressure and Guardiola was relieved it wasn't the Brazilians who got the first goal. "Right now we won but I can imagine perfectly what would happen if they score first, these quality players and you are under pressure they destroy you with the short passes and the speed they have," he said. "I’m a big fan for the way they play.
