The Pakistan Cricket Board on Thursday held a review meeting of their woeful Asia Cup show in the wake of their World Cup squad announcement.

All teams must finalise their 15-player squads for the cricket showpiece before the September 28 deadline, with any replacements after this date requiring approval from the ICC. "The philosophy behind this review was to create an atmosphere of open discussion and develop consensus," PCB chairman of the management committee Zaka Ashraf said in a statement. "The idea is to have everyone on board and debate about performances, identifying the problems and their solutions.” The review meeting was also attended by head coach Mickey Arthur, captain Babar Azam, vice-captain Shadab Khan and former skippers Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez.

Chief selector and former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq could not attend the meeting due to a 'medical emergency' but shared his inputs with the PCB chief on Thursday.

The other members of the men's national coaching staff including head coach Grant Bradburn, batting coach Andrew Puttick and bowling coach Morne Morkel “were also invited to report on the team's recent performance". “We have to debate strengths and weaknesses so that we are clear about what and where we need to invest for the betterment of our team,” he added.

Pakistani presenter Zainab Abbas, part of the ICC digital team covering the ODI Cricket World Cup, on Monday left India after facing backlash on social media over her alleged anti-India posts in the past but the sport's governing body insisted that she left the country due to personal reasons. Zainab left India from Hyderabad where she was deputed to cover Pakistan's three World Cup games in the city. The 35-year-old was present at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad for Pakistan's World Cup opener against the Netherlands on October 6. Posts from her unverified X account, formerly Twitter, had gone viral after she announced that she would be covering the ICC mega event in India.
The win against the Netherlands wasn't the most convincing but an inconsistent and mercurial Pakistan will still fancy their chances against a bruised and battered Sri Lanka in the World Cup match in Hyderabad on Tuesday. If their batting against the Associate nation was any indication, then Pakistan will need to do a lot more in the coming weeks, starting with the clash against Sri Lanka, whose spinners have the ability to cause damage in the opposition ranks.
Pakistan will be taking on Netherlands in their ODI World Cup 2023 opening match on Friday in Hyderabad. Following a pre-mature Asia Cup exit and defeats in the two warm-up games, Pakistan definitely need to raise their game to go deep in the ODI showpiece. Imam is expected to start against Netherlands but the team will need to choose between the destructive but out-of-form Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique who doesn't have the experience of world events. It will be interesting to see that which side will prevail over the other.
Overwhelmed with hospitality since arriving in India, Babar Azam is completely feeling "at home" in Hyderabad but didn't forgot to add that Pakistan cricket fans have been missed amid their build-up for the World Cup. The Babar-led Pakistan side has been based in Hyderabad where they played two warm-up matches and will take on New Zealand on October 6 in their tournament-opener. A few days ago, PTI reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board has written to the ICC seeking prompt action on the visa process for its fans and media. "I think the hospitality was quite nice. We were not expecting this, but I think the way people are responding towards our team, everyone (has) enjoyed it," Babar told the media here during ICC's Captain's Day event.
The Pakistan cricket team is back in the Indian shores after seven years as the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 beckons. Pakistan open their World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on Friday, before facing arch-rivals India in Ahmedabad on October 14. However, their preparations for the World Cup haven't been ideal as the Babar Azam-led side failed to reach the Asia Cup final last month. Pakistan also lost both of their World Cup games against New Zealand and Australia, respectively. It will be interesting to see whether Pakistan can turn their fortune around in the World Cup finals.
With the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 set to commence on Thursday, October 5, captains of the all 10 participating teams will gather together in front of media personnel to discuss a range of topics. In the opening match of the tournament, defending champions England will play New Zealand in a repeat of the 2019 World Cup final. Meanwhile, the host nation, India, will open their campaign against Australia in Chennai on October 8. The epic tournament features 10 nations playing 48 matches over 46 days at 10 different venues. The Narendra Modi Stadium -- nearly a third bigger than the Melbourne Cricket Ground -- will be host to five matches, including the final on November 19. Ahead of the Captains Day, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam caught up with his Indian counterpart Rohit Sharma in Ahmedabad.
