Former right-back Pablo Zabaleta believes Manchester City's decision to sign England international Kalvin Phillips this summer will allow them to compete for every trophy up for grabs this coming season.

Following Fernandinho's exit at the end of last season, City manager Pep Guardiola quickly prioritised the addition of a new defensive-midfielder and identified Leeds United ace Phillips as his top target.

The Yorkshire-born midfielder joined City on a six-year deal earlier this month. Phillips — who was on Leeds' books for 12 years — will compete with Rodri for the holding-midfield berth.

The Spaniard was exceptional in midfield last season, so Phillips will have his work cut out trying to win his spot in the starting line-up.
