Leicester Tigers title-winning centre Matias Moroni has confirmed he has played his last game for the club. The Argentina international claimed he wanted to stay at the Gallagher Premiership champions but the matter was 'out of his hands'.
He is expected to be announced as a Newcastle Falcons player for the 2022/23 season on Wednesday. Since joining in 2020, the 31-year-old made 36 appearances, his last coming in Saturday's win over Saracens at Twickenham, scoring five tires along the way. "I'm really sad to tell you that although I wanted to stay, I have to leave," he wrote on his Instagram account. "It came as a bit of a shock but it was out of my hands!
I was not expecting that to happen but show must go on! "Fortunately, we finish the way we all deserve it. It couldn’t have been better." Moroni has been rumoured to be switching Mattioli Woods Welford Road for Kingston Park, with the Falcons teasing an 'exciting' new signing that will be announced on Wednesday.
Moroni also wrote: "I want to thank all the Tigers family for your support and make me feel like home (players, coaches, fans, workers of the club)!
