Manchester United are 'among the candidates' pursuing the signature of Barcelona centre-back Andreas Christensen with a view to landing him in the summer.

That is according to a report by Spanish news outlet SPORT, which claims United, who face Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup third round on Monday night, are 'very interested' in the Dane.

Signing a new centre-back at some point this calendar year is expected to be a leading objective for the Reds. Uncertainty currently surrounds the future of Raphael Varane, likewise Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans.

Harry Maguire, despite his resurgence this term, may also be under threat of leaving Old Trafford at some point in the not too distant future.
