Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has resumed outfield training but manager Erik ten Hag has refused to put a date on his return.

Mount has missed the last two games with a calf problem, having also missed a month of the season with a hamstring problem. The 24-year-old has not tallied a goal or an assist from his 12 appearances since his £60million transfer from Chelsea and Mount was dropped by Ten Hag in October. "Mason Mount today is returning on the pitch but I don't know how long it will take, in this moment." United will be without at least six players against Newcastle United on Saturday evening as they strive for a first Premier League away win against top-half opponents since November last year.

United confirmed Tyrell Malacia has suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from a knee problem that has required further surgery.

Malacia has been sidelined since pre-season. Lisandro Martinez (foot), Jonny Evans (thigh), Casemiro (hamstring), Christian Eriksen (knee) and Amad (knee) are all still out as United prepare to travel to St James' Park.
